# What Does It Mean for Me?

## A simple guide to what shop owners need to know and do about the Tobacco and Vapes Bill 2024-25

### The UK Government is introducing a new law about selling tobacco and vape products in England and Wales. It is expected to become law from 1 January 2027.

- You will need both a **personal** and **premises licence** to sell tobacco or vapes.
- People **born after 1 January 2009** can never buy tobacco.
- **Councils will have new powers** to inspect, fine, or prosecute shops.
- Expectlicence fees, **more** record keeping, and **new** training rules.
- The new law is expected to start on **1 January 2027.**

## What You Can do Now

- PREPARE EARLY:
  
  Review your systems and staff training.
- BUDGET AHEAD:
  
  Plan for licence fees and training costs.
- STAY INFORMED:
